FOOD PROJECT
2011-2015
At a time when factory-farm food recalls are commonplace and children are shocked to learn that vegetables grow in dirt, the goal of this project was to remind viewers that all food was once alive.
If it wasn’t alive, it isn’t food.
It is the life of our food that sustains our own lives, and this continuum of life through eating that compelled me to address food. Because of the seasonal nature of real food, I drew foods as they were available in the fields and pens of local gardens and farms. This project was the result of a residencency at Doko Farm in Blythewood, South Carolina, an historic family farm that specializes in heritage meats. Thank you, Doko!
