At a time when factory-farm food recalls are commonplace and children are shocked to learn that vegetables grow in dirt, the goal of this project is to remind viewers that all food was once alive.
If it wasn’t alive, it isn’t food.
It is the life of the foods that we eat that sustains our own lives, and this continuum of life through eating that compels me to address food in my current work. Because of the seasonal nature of real food, I draw foods as they are available in the fields and pens of local gardens and farms. Currently, I'm the artist in residence at Doko Farm in Blythewood, South Carolina, an historic family farm that specializes in heritage meats.
