ALLIGATORS

BETES NOIRE, ALLIGATOR PORTRAITS & ALLIGATOR STUDIES

I define my creative action as drawing, whether I'm using paint, carbon or other media. In my work the word 'draw' means not only to place marks on a surface but also to extract, like to draw blood or to draw a breath. In this series I draw alligators to explore issues of mental health. My anxiety monsters are ambush predators. Always lurking. Stalkers, quiet but lethal, menacing, powerful, with giant teeth. Having spent my life in the deep south they are a familiar beast- alligators.
